Life lesson to all: If you buy a coupon (or Groupon), be sure to use it before it expires. I have had one instance where my coupon ‘expired’ and I couldn’t reap the benefits of the deal. When I purchased my “Living Social” deal for Pizzeria Serio in Lakeview, I made sure to use it. My coworker, Nishi, lives in Lakeview, so we stopped by on a quiet Wednesday after work.
This new restaurant opened in April and was featured on one of my new favorite websites, UrbanDaddy. With some New York style flare and a classy bar/pizzeria interior, I felt welcomed and hungry. Nishi and I had $30 to spend with our coupon, so we went for a full meal. We started with mini calzones filled with ricotta and mozzarella cheese. They were tasty. The dough was great, and the simplicity of cheese calzones dipped in marinara were just great. If this was any indication of their crust, we were anxious to try the pizza.

Before the pizza came, we ordered their Italian salad, and it was one of the best salads I’ve ever eaten… I know that’s quite the statement. The toppings included chopped romaine and iceberg, salami, pepperoni, provolone, tomatoes, (no olives), red peppers, onions, parmesan cheese with garlic balsamic vinaigrette dressing. The ingredients were exactly what I enjoy, and the dressing was light. I would choose this salad over a Carmine’s (Rosebud) chopped salad if only I lived closer, and the price point ($7.00) is impressive for the large size of the salad. Too bad we dug into the salad too quickly and couldn’t get a good photo of it.
Our New York style pizza arrived, and it was huge! In a comical way, it was smaller than the actual pizza pan. I didn’t know if they were playing mind tricks, but the pizza was still pretty large! Pizzas start at $13.00, and this is a reasonable price point (compared to the smaller pizzas I just ate in Denver starting at $14.00…pricey). We had half margherita and half “The Big Cheese” with garlic. Nishi & I had our work cut out for us.

So we were overwhelmed with the size of the pizza, but wanted to give both halves a fair chance. We loved the new york thin crust; It was cooked well, and not greasy. The big cheese pizza was a little too strong on the garlic, our waitress’s suggestion. We still enjoyed it, but definitely preferred the Margherita. I loved how affordable this food was, and would love to go back JUST for the calzones and salad. The pizza was still great and carried on my streak of fresh toppings (like Marco’s) and well-prepared food.
Also, they offer daily deals like 1/2 price wine, or BOGO pizza… so that’s enticing enough. This is definitely not chicago-style, but a great pizza place in Lakeview! I hope to try it again sometime!
