Francesca’s Pizzeria #PizzaTweetup

This past Sunday, I had the opportunity to host my first #tweetup (twitter meetup, gathering, event) at Francesca’s Pizzeria Napoletana. Approximately forty guests attended, a great number even though the cold thunderstorm was underway.

The night went off without a hitch. At 4:00pm, people started coming through the doors to the restaurant, anxious for free pizza and great people to chat with. The staff at Francesca’s was attentive and served pizzas and drinks throughout the event.

There were so many pizzas that came out, and quite a variety. Chef Alfredo invited people to create pizzas with him, and we soon realized that him and his staff are much quicker in the kitchen. 🙂 Oh well, we were having fun. Could you imagine having a plethora of toppings in front of you to choose from? Not to mention having a quick hand at rolling out (or slapping out) pizza dough in a short time… Life as a pizza chef would be a labor of love, but it’s not in the cards for me YET !

Chef Alfredo

There was fresh homemade bread that was baked earlier that morning, water in authentic bottles, classy stemless glasses of wine, and beer. Also, the beautiful pizza oven became the centerpiece of the event as people migrated from our private room to the main attraction.

Quick outline of the basics:
The crust: SO GREAT. This is not a pizza where the diner sacrifices the crust… eat it up. A nice burnt edge and Neapolitan-style never fails for me.
The sauce: Nothing notable… very light and spread evenly across the pizza.
The cheese: I think I have a real appreciation for mozzarella cheese… and the freshness of this cheese made me crave the margherita pizza because there was more of it.
Spices: One of the great things about his pizzas, Chef Alfredo doesn’t use spices… aside from basil. The main ingredients bring out all the flavor he needs.

One of my favorites= Contadina: smoked mozzarella, mozzarella di bufala, cherry tomatoes, sweet salami, arugula
Least favorite= Quattro Formaggi: mozzarella, gorgonzola, ementhal, and caciotta dolce cheeses
Too much cheese for me!

We had so many different types of pizza, even I missed some of them. Also, I hit a wall around 5:30… others can attest to my disappointment. But they can also take the pride in knowing their peer pressure worked, because I still had a taste of the last two pizzas-> Quattro Formaggi and Vesuvio.

Oh so many great pizzas, oh so many great people, oh so many new twitter friends I met 🙂
#1 Check out Francesca’s Pizzeria Napoletana (especially for their Mon-Wed specials)
#2 I want to do more tweetups, so if you’re up for it, come join the fun!

I had so many photos, I created a slideshow!

Pardon me for referencing some people by their twitter names, but I have to honor the tweet code 🙂
