I was so happy to see my long lost friends Audrey & Anna. Since I travel so much, it is hard to get in touch with people every weekend I’m in Chicago. I was so happy that the girls were up for some pizza and drinks, so we met at Pizzeria da Nella Cucina Napoletana, about ¼ mile from the Fullerton red line stop.
The restaurant had a very casual setup… nothing big on aesthetics. There is a full bar near the entrance and a gorgeous pizza oven at the back of the restaurant. They were getting ready for a birthday party that day, but we had a cozy table near the window.
We started with some bread and vino, of course. There is no better day to start a Saturday than with booze and carbohydrates! First off, the bread was warm, fresh, and perfectly necessary.
We had a nice mixed greens salad lightly topped with olive oil and a mix of cherry tomatoes and olives. Our wine for the day was Kris, a Pinot Noir. It was a light and bright taste and reflected the natural pinot flavor.
Here are photos of our two awesome pizzas:
MMM mmm when I eat pizza like this, I know everything is fresh and top-notch. I was on cloud nine with this Margherita pie. I am a sauce fiend, so was happy to see plenty, but I could have enjoyed a few more dollops of cheese as well!
Holy cow that taste of smoked mozzarella is so vibrant and strong. It was lovely. Sausage crumbles were good, and the red pepper was cooked down just enough to release all the flavor into the pizza.
Overall, we enjoyed our meal at Nella. It is times like this when I push pizza into the health category because we didn’t feel exhausted or overly full by eating this type of pizza. The salad was light, and the pizzas were fresh and airy. One day I’ll make pizza like this!
