Il Cane Rosso- Dallas, TX

I took a 6:00am flight out of Dallas on Feb 15th, so I had to drive over on Valentine’s Day. I don’t love the ~2 hour drive from Temple, TX to Dallas, but I strategically planned for a pizza experience. Although I had not read about Il Cane Rosso on any of my […]

Riccardo Enoteca

I was so happy to be surrounded by friends to celebrate my belated birthday in Chicago.

We dined at Riccardo Enoteca and enjoyed their small plates and pizzas. Although we were a large group, once they got into the swing of things, service was attentive. We drank plenty of wine and loved the bread on the table. We really enjoyed our meal, and the price was reasonable when split across a group of people.

The pizzas are thicker and remind me of a fancier version of Sweet Tomatoes focaccia bread pizza. The edges are charred against the pan, the crust is light and fluffy, and the toppings don’t weigh down the pizza in any way. This also reminded me of the pizza al taglio, pizza by the slice, in Italy. The crust is thick and flavorful, like bread, and the toppings are generous. Although I love sauce on my pizza, I think they chose to apply sparingly in order to preserve the stability of the crust. I was willing to make that compromise. 🙂

Giampietro’s-Breckenridge, CO

I must admit, the first time I visited Giampietro’s (over two years ago), I was extremely dehydrated and suffering from altitude sickness. It did not involve vomiting, but I was delirious and dizzy most of my first 60 hours in Colorado. Jon and I were excited to head over and try out some of the best pizza in the mountains. We arrived around 8:00pm and put our name down on the wait list. The 10-table restaurant was packed at the time, but we could see people clearing out. Just as Jon sipped his first drink at the bar nearby, they called our phone. We finished up and headed back to eat. We ordered a house salad and two slices of the NY-style pizza. I was eying the Sicilian-style ZA, but they only served it as a whole pizza, so that was out of the question. I loved the dressing on the house salad. It was light and fresh, and a great starter to our meal. The bread was warm and fluffy and addicting. I had to control my urge to eat all of it before our slices arrived. Uncommon Ground

I’ve always heard the best things about Uncommon Ground, so I was excited to celebrate Bailey’s birthday there. Ordered the only pizza on the menu, of course.

Sausage, spinach, red pepper, and fancy cheeses. The crust was a flavorful naan type of bread. Very satisfying. They had stuffed squash and loved it. I look forward to trying more of their food options when I can.
