Pizzaria Lisboa -Lisbon, Portugal

On our visit to Portugal, we were lucky to check out some pizzerias along with visiting one of the top Michelin restaurants in the country. Belcanto is run by top chef Jose Avilez, and he opened a pizza spot called Pizzaria Lisboa.

The space seats approximately 40 guests, is comfy and casually designed, and was filled with many locals enjoying an afternoon snack. We started with their ‘cover’ bread plate, which included breadsticks, pizza bread, fresh olive oil, olives, and dips. All lovely to kickstart our meal. As placemats, they had round cork trivets, which I enjoyed! Enjoyed a simple thin pizza with salami… and beers! Salud Portugal :)

Pizzeria Via Stato- Chicago

I feel so lucky! My friends and family were so supportive and a group of lovely women planned a perfect pizza-themed bridal shower for me! This was after a Friday night bachelorette kickoff with a private pizza chef (Thanks to my MOH/sister) for my friends and I. Pizza was well-represented during the festivities and I wouldn’t change it for the world!

Pizzeria Via Stato is a great spot located in River North. We had tasty salads, appetizers, and pizzas and loved hearing thoughtful words from all of the women who are close to my om and I. The pizzas were nice and thin, with a flaky crust. There was a good char at the edges and the cheese was oily and burnt and full of happiness. The service at this place was great, and they do a phenomenal job hosting large parties. Thanks to all the women who planned this special day, and especially my Aunt Cheryl!

Di Fara- Brooklyn

Pizza adventures with friends are the best, especially when one of is the ultimate pizza enthusiast. I was terrible at managing my appetite on our afternoon rainy pizza crawl, but we made sure to visit the famed Di Fara in Brooklyn to watch Dom DeMarco. True happiness, precision, and care. I was nearing food coma as I savored the flavors of the square slice and the regular pie… loved some of that real basil! Highly recommend this experience, although wait times are quite long on the weekends. Olive Oil video/aristry at the bottom of the post is a goodie. :)

Totonno’s- Coney Island, NY

My whirlwind May NYC Visit (self-titled “Pizza & Musicals”) included an afternoon of pizza adventures with Scott Wiener and Anna Orchard!! As amazing tour guides/hosts on my adventure, we began in Coney Island. I arrived straight from the airport, armed with my large backpack and raincoat for the weekend, we headed to our first stop, Totonno’s.

This unassuming spot has been family-owned since 1924, and we were lucky to visit during the rainy weather when it wasn’t too busy. I loved the 1/2 white garlic pizza and margherita… Flavors were awesome, the bake was just right, and it was a solid start to our day. In fact, I think it was my favorite pie of the entire day! No complaints here. And we topped it with a Nathan’s hot dog… although that may have negatively impacted my ability to keep chugging through our pizza crawl late into the day :). Enjoy photos below!

A true art form. Notice the extra long pizza peel, and the bench to anchor the peel for prepping the pie.
