Buona Forchetta-San Diego, CA

This meal was such a memorable experience! (Photos do not do it justice, and I misplaced a bunch). I had read about this restaurant and the pizzaiolo trained at the famous Keste pizza in NY and multiple pizza competition winner. The concierge, of course, had not heard of this place because it see not in walking distance of the gaslamp quarter where we stayed or any touristic places.

But if you drive by car to Balboa park/ San Diego Zoo, the South Park neighborhood is only a few minutes away.

We arrived a bit before their noon opening on a Saturday and within 30 minutes , the spot was busy!! At least 8 tables outdoors and several more indoors. The locals know where to be… And speaking of locals, the Italians working at the restaurant were passionate and connected to this business.

Our Regina Margherita pie was hard to beat. There was something special in the dough… Wheat or extra semolina flour, but it created this lovely pizza pie in sizes larger than I see most Neapolitan pies… Even larger than Keste. With a beautiful Ferrara oven to accompany the lovely environment, we were set on this place. Definite winner:)
